Trentino and Alto Adige

This is the most northern Italian region , mainly mountainous , with a lofty  majestic scenery of the Alps (the Dolomites)  on the border with Austria. A large part of the territory is protected under a landscape and environmental profile so there are several beautiful National Park. The Trentino and Alto Adige is a special statute region. A peculiarity of the region is that in the Trento province the language used is Italian while in the Bolzano province the official language is German;  but both cities are completely bilingual.

My Suggestions:

The Region has  plenty of old castle (some of them have been transformed into  Hotels) visit the Rodengo castle (one of the largest and mightiest fortresses)  near Bressanone ( www.bixen.org) and the Castel Fontana near Tirolo www.dorf-tirol.it

In addition visit the Stelvio National Park. Further in the Trento Province you can visit the north part of Garda Lake and  the two splendid  cities Torbole and Riva del Garda.(www.rivadelgarda.com)
